This article will provide a detailed introduction and summary of information regarding Japan Universal Studios tickets, Universal Studios Express Pass, and Universal Studios VIP tours. It will also explain the detailed process of purchasing Universal Studios Japan tickets, Universal Studios Fast Pass, and VIP tours through the official Universal Studios website.

Japan Universal Studios Osaka is a must-visit tourist hotspot when traveling to Osaka. Located in the Osaka Bay Area, Japan Universal Studios is only 10 kilometers from the city center and can be reached directly by JR train, making it very convenient. The main attractions of Osaka Universal Studios are its two unique areas: “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” and “Super Nintendo World”. Additionally, USJ frequently introduces limited-time anime-themed games and events, making it a place that fans want to visit again and again.
I first visited Japan Universal Studios during my trip to Osaka in 2007, then again during Christmas in 2015, and once more in 2023 when I revisited Japan. Before each visit, I would thoroughly research the purchase of tickets, Express Passes, VIP tours, and the entry passes for “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” and “Super Nintendo World”.
This article will provide a detailed introduction and summary of information regarding Universal Studios tickets, Universal Express Pass, and Universal Studios VIP tours based on my experience. This includes the types, prices, and purchasing channels for Japan Universal Studios tickets, Express Passes, and VIP tours, as well as a step-by-step guide on how to purchase tickets, Express Passes, and VIP tours through the official Japan Universal Studios website.

1. 1-Day Pass [1デイ・スタジオ・パス]
The 1-Day Pass is only valid for the day of entry, but you can leave and re-enter the park on the same day. The price of the 1-Day Pass uses dynamic pricing, meaning the price varies daily depending on the season. The adult price (including tax, same below) starts from 8,600 JPY, while the child price (4-11 years old) starts from 5,600 JPY, and the senior price (65 years and above) starts from 7,700 JPY.
If you are not eligible for the Birthday Discount Ticket and do not need to change the date, you can also purchase the 1-Day Pass through some travel platforms. Below are the links to purchase Osaka Universal Studios 1-Day Passes on Klook, KKday, and Trip.com. No physical ticket is needed; you can simply scan the QR code in the email to enter the park. The price is the same as the official price.
2. 1.5-Day Pass [1.5デイ・スタジオ・パス]
The 1.5-Day Pass allows entry after 3 PM on the first day and full-day entry on the second day. The price of the 1.5-Day Pass also uses dynamic pricing, meaning the price varies daily depending on the season. The adult price (including seniors) starts from 13,100 JPY, while the child price (4-11 years old) starts from 8,600 JPY. If purchased on the official website, the 1.5-Day Pass does not come in e-ticket form and must be picked up at the park or mailed to a Japanese address.
However, you can purchase 1.5-day e-tickets on platforms like Klook, KKday, and Trip.com, which allow you to enter directly without needing to exchange tickets at the USJ ticket office. This is more convenient, and the price is the same as on the official website. Below are the links to purchase 1.5-day tickets for Universal Studios Japan (USJ) on Klook, KKday, and Trip.com:
3. 2-Day Pass [2デイ・スタジオ・パス]
The 2-day pass is valid for two consecutive days, and the price also fluctuates depending on the season. The adult price (including seniors) starts from 16,300 yen, while the price for children aged 4-11 starts from 10,600 yen. If you purchase the 2-day pass on the official website, there is no e-ticket option, and you will need to pick up the ticket on-site or have it mailed to a Japanese address.
However, you can purchase 2-day e-tickets on platforms like Klook, KKday, and Trip.com, which allow you to enter directly without needing to exchange tickets at the USJ ticket office. This is more convenient, and the price is the same as on the official website. Below are the links to purchase 2-day tickets for Universal Studios Japan (USJ) on Klook, KKday, and Trip.com:
4. Twilight Pass [トワイライト・パス]
The Twilight Pass allows entry only after 3 PM. Like the 1-day pass, it uses a dynamic pricing system. The adult price (including seniors) starts from 6,000 yen, while the price for children aged 4-11 starts from 3,900 yen, which is approximately 70% of the 1-day pass price.
5. Birthday Discount Ticket [バースデー・パス]
The Birthday Discount Ticket is divided into two types: the Birthday 1-Day Pass (Birthday 1-Day Pass) and the Birthday 2-Day Pass (Birthday 2-Day Pass). The price is the same as the regular 1-day pass, using a dynamic pricing system. The adult price for the Birthday 1-Day Pass starts from 8,100 yen, while the price for children aged 4-11 starts from 5,300 yen. The adult price for the Birthday 2-Day Pass starts from 15,300 yen, while the price for children aged 4-11 starts from 10,000 yen, which is approximately 94% of the regular 1-day and 2-day pass prices.
The Birthday Discount Ticket can only be purchased on the Universal Studios Japan official website as a Universal Club Member. The birthday of the account holder or a registered family member must be in the same month or the previous month as the ticket date. For example, if your birthday is on September 20, you can purchase the Birthday Discount Ticket for dates between September 1 and October 31. In other words, if your birthday is in September, you can purchase Birthday Discount Tickets for September and October, and so on. Each birthday member (or family member) can purchase up to 6 Birthday Discount Tickets, including the birthday person themselves.
6. 4-Year-Old Birthday Invitation Pass [4歳バースデー・インビテーション・パス]
Children under 4 years old can enter Universal Studios Japan for free, so USJ has introduced a special 4-Year-Old Birthday Invitation Pass for children who have just turned 4 and need to purchase a ticket. Children who have turned 4 can purchase a 1-day ticket at a discounted price during their birthday month and the following month. The 4-Year-Old Birthday Invitation Pass includes two benefits, which can be used simultaneously.
The first benefit is the ability to purchase a 2-person 1-day ticket at a discounted price (one adult + the child who just turned 4, starting from 8,100 yen, or one child aged 4-11 + the child who just turned 4, starting from 5,300 yen). The second benefit is the ability to purchase up to 5 1-day tickets at a discounted price, with adult prices starting from 8,100 yen and children’s prices starting from 5,300 yen.
The 4-Year-Old Birthday Invitation Pass is only available to Universal Club Members. Therefore, if you want to enjoy this benefit, you must first register the child who is about to turn 4 as a Universal Club Member on the USJ official website or add them as a family member in an adult account. Additionally, the 4-Year-Old Birthday Invitation Pass cannot be purchased directly on the official website. You need to purchase it at the ticket office outside the USJ entrance. When purchasing, you must log in to your Universal Club Member account and present the birthday discount coupon, which will only appear during the birthday month and the following month. In addition to presenting the coupon, you may also need to show a valid document proving the child’s birthday, such as a passport.
7. Discount Studio Pass for Disabled Persons [障がい者向け割引スタジオ・パス]
The Discount Studio Pass for Disabled Persons is only available to individuals who hold a disability certificate issued by the Japanese government. The adult price is 4,700 yen, and the price for children aged 4-11 is 3,200 yen, which is approximately 45% cheaper than the regular price.
II. USJ Ticket Sales Period, Refund and Change Rules, Purchase Channels, and Precautions
Below are some common questions that many people ask when purchasing tickets for Universal Studios Japan. This section will answer them one by one.
- When can USJ tickets be purchased?
- Where can USJ tickets be purchased?
- Can USJ tickets be refunded or rescheduled?
- Where is the cheapest place to buy USJ tickets?
- Can USJ tickets be used for multiple entries?
- Can USJ tickets be used for all attractions in the park?
When can USJ tickets be purchased?
The ticket sales period for Universal Studios Japan often changes. Most of the time, tickets can be purchased up to 2 months in advance. For example, tickets for December 29 can be purchased as early as October 29, and tickets for December 30 can be purchased as early as October 30, and so on.
However, sometimes the sales period is not fixed. For example, sometimes USJ tickets can be purchased for a 3-month period. For instance, in January, you can purchase tickets for January to March 31, while tickets for April can only be purchased starting from February 1.
Where can tickets be purchased?
Tickets can be purchased at the ticket booths outside the main entrance of Universal Studios Japan. However, there are usually long queues for on-site ticket purchases, so unless you decide to visit USJ on the same day, it is best to purchase your tickets in advance before entering the park.
There are many channels for purchasing tickets, including:
- On-site ticket booths;
- Official ticket purchase system on the Japanese USJ official website;
- Sales agent ticket purchase system on the English USJ official website;
- Major online travel product sales platforms;
- Travel agency stores;
- USJ partner hotels in Japan;
- Lawson convenience store self-service ticket machines or website.
In addition to traditional paper tickets, USJ also offers e-tickets. After purchasing, you can enter the park directly by scanning the QR code on your phone or printing out the e-ticket. Most tickets purchased online are now e-tickets, including those purchased on the USJ official website. However, tickets purchased at on-site ticket booths, travel agency stores, or USJ partner hotels are still paper tickets.
Can tickets be refunded or rescheduled?
Universal Studios Japan tickets cannot be refunded, whether purchased on the USJ official website or other sales platforms. Tickets purchased on the official website can be rescheduled under specific conditions, but tickets purchased on other sales platforms cannot be rescheduled. There is no limit to the number of USJ tickets sold, so even during peak seasons, you can purchase tickets one day in advance. Therefore, there is no need to purchase tickets too early. It is recommended to purchase tickets before your trip or even after arriving in Japan.
Where is the cheapest place to buy USJ tickets?
No matter where you purchase tickets, the price is the same, based on the official yen price. However, when purchasing through overseas sales agents, the price will be converted to the local currency based on the agent’s exchange rate, so there may be slight differences in the local currency price between different agents, but the difference is minimal.
The biggest advantage of purchasing tickets on the Japanese USJ official website is that you can purchase Birthday Discount Tickets at a 4% discount. If your visit to USJ coincides with your birthday month or the following month, purchasing tickets on the official website is cheaper. Another advantage of purchasing on the official website is the ability to change the entry date. However, tickets generally only need to be purchased one day in advance, so the flexibility to change dates on the official website is not very useful.
If you are not eligible for the Birthday Discount Ticket, there is no need to purchase tickets on the USJ official website. It is more cost-effective to purchase tickets on platforms like Klook, KKday, and Trip.com. On these platforms, you can sometimes use discount codes to get discounts, and during promotional periods, there may even be buy-one-get-one-free offers. Even without discounts, you can earn points.
In summary, if you are not visiting USJ during your birthday month or the following month, and your itinerary is fixed with no need to change dates, it is recommended to purchase tickets on platforms like Klook, KKday, and Trip.com. However, if your itinerary is uncertain and you may need to change the entry date, or if you are visiting USJ during your birthday month or the following month, it is recommended to purchase tickets on the USJ official website to enjoy the birthday discount and the option to change dates, although refunds are not allowed.
Additionally, if you want to purchase 1.5-day or 2-day passes, it is recommended to purchase them through Klook, KKday, and Trip.com, as 1.5-day and 2-day passes purchased on the USJ official website do not come with e-tickets and require on-site exchange, which is more troublesome. However, on the aforementioned platforms, you can purchase 1.5-day and 2-day e-tickets and enter directly.
Moreover, through Klook, KKday, and Trip.com, you can also purchase Early Entry passes, which allow you to enter the park 15 minutes before it officially opens. This allows you to enjoy popular attractions that usually have long queues or enter “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” or “Super Nintendo World” before others.
In addition to using the Early Entry pass to enter the park early, there is also a ticket on Klook, KKday, and Trip.com that includes a guaranteed entry ticket to “Super Nintendo World”. However, this ticket is 2,000 yen more expensive than a regular ticket, and you can only enter after 1 PM. You also need to exchange the “Super Nintendo World” entry ticket at the service center outside the park, which is more troublesome.
Below are the links to purchase Universal Studios Japan tickets on Klook, KKday, and Trip.com. No ticket exchange is required; you can enter directly by scanning the QR code, and the price is the same as the official price.
Can tickets be used for multiple entries?
Yes! Ticket holders can re-enter the park on the same day after leaving. However, before leaving the park, you need to inform the staff at the gate that you will re-enter and provide a reason for temporarily leaving. The staff will stamp an invisible mark on your hand, which will be checked when you re-enter. You may also need to show your ticket when re-entering.
Can tickets be used for all attractions in the park?
In principle, after purchasing a ticket and entering the park, you can enjoy all attractions in Universal Studios Japan. However, some limited-time attractions, shows, or venues may require additional tickets. Additionally, two special areas in USJ, “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” (The Wizarding World of Harry Potter) and “Super Nintendo World” (Super Nintendo World), require an entry ticket, which can be obtained for free within USJ, but there is a limit to the number of tickets available.
Universal Express Pass at Universal Studios Japan
In addition to tickets, Universal Studios Japan also sells Universal Express Passes. Below is a summary of information about the Universal Express Pass at USJ, including:
- What is the Express Pass?
- Types of Express Pass, sale times, and purchase channels
1. What is the Express Pass?
Although purchasing a ticket to Universal Studios Japan (USJ) allows you to access most of the attractions inside, due to the large number of visitors, popular attractions such as “Mario Kart: Koopa’s Challenge“, “Yoshi’s Adventure“, “Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey“, “Flight of the Hippogriff“, “The Flying Dinosaur“, “Space Fantasy: The Ride“, “The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man: The Ride“, “Hollywood Dream: The Ride“, and other limited-time attractions during special events, usually require long waiting times.
Therefore, Universal Studios Japan also sells Express Passes that allow you to skip the lines, known as the Universal Express Pass. The Express Pass is not a ticket, you still need to purchase a separate admission ticket to enter the park.
Based on experience, the Express Pass can save a lot of time. For example, the popular “Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey” usually has a waiting time of over 2 hours, but with the USJ Express Pass, you can save 2 hours of waiting time. Therefore, if you want to experience popular attractions, the Universal Express Pass is a must-buy.

Additionally, some Express Passes include entry tickets to “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” (The Wizarding World of Harry Potter) and “Super Nintendo World” (Super Nintendo World). If you want to visit these special areas and are worried about not being able to get entry tickets after entering the park, purchasing the Universal Express Pass guarantees entry.
2. Types of Express Pass, Sale Times, and Purchase Channels
Below are some common questions people ask when purchasing the Universal Express Pass for Universal Studios Japan. This section will answer them one by one.
- What types of Express Passes are available?
- When can the Express Pass be purchased?
- Where can the Express Pass be purchased?
- Can the Express Pass be refunded or rescheduled?
What types of Universal Express Passes are available at Universal Studios Japan?
The Universal Express Pass comes in several different versions, each including different attractions. For example, some passes allow you to skip the line for certain rides, include limited-time attractions, and may or may not include entry tickets to “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” and “Super Nintendo World”. Additionally, the contents of the Express Pass are not fixed. Since Universal Studios Japan introduces new limited-time attractions every few months, the contents of the Express Pass are constantly being reorganized. The same version of the Express Pass may include different attractions at different times, and not all versions of the Express Pass are available year-round. Some limited-time Express Passes are only available for a specific period.
Basically, the Universal Express Pass can be divided into year-round Express Passes (called “毎日販売中” on the official website) and limited-time Express Passes. The year-round Express Passes mainly include fixed attractions within Universal Studios Japan, while the limited-time Express Passes include some short-term, temporary attractions or shows. The year-round Express Passes are available for purchase throughout the year, while the limited-time Express Passes are only available during specific periods.
The Universal Express Pass usually comes in different types such as Express 7, Express 6, Express 5, Express 4, Express 3, and Express 2. The number after the Universal Express Pass name indicates the number of attractions you can skip the line for. For example, Universal Express Pass 7 allows you to skip the line for 7 attractions, while Universal Express Pass 4 allows you to skip the line for 4 attractions, and so on.
The Express Pass allows you to skip the line for each attraction only once. If you want to ride multiple times, you will need to wait in line like everyone else. In terms of pricing, different versions of the USJ Express Pass have different prices, and prices vary depending on the day. Additionally, the Express Pass does not have different prices for adults, children, or seniors; the price is the same for everyone. (Note: Children under 4 years old do not need to purchase a ticket, so they also do not need to purchase an Express Pass. They can enter with an accompanying adult who has an Express Pass.)
When can the Express Pass be purchased?
The sale period for the Express Pass follows the same rules as the ticket sales, which often change. Most of the time, the earliest you can purchase the Express Pass is 2 months in advance. For example, the Express Pass for December 15 can be purchased as early as October 15, and the Express Pass for December 16 can be purchased as early as October 16, and so on. Sometimes, the sale may start 3 months in advance. However, sometimes the sale period is not based on a fixed number of days in advance.
Additionally, if the limited-time attractions included in the Express Pass are about to expire, the Express Pass can only be purchased until the expiration date of those attractions.
Where can the Universal Express Pass be purchased?
The purchase channels for the Universal Express Pass are similar to those for tickets. Currently, besides the Japanese official website, other sales points generally offer all types of Express Passes. Below are the main channels for purchasing the Express Pass:
- Purchase at the on-site ticket office;
- Purchase through the official ticketing system on the Japanese Universal Studios Japan official website;
- Purchase through the sales agent system on the English Universal Studios Japan official website;
- Purchase through major online travel product platforms;
- Purchase at travel agency stores;
- Purchase at USJ partner hotels in Japan;
- Purchase at Lawson convenience store self-service ticket machines or websites.
The price of the Universal Express Pass is the same no matter where you purchase it, as it is based on the official yen price. However, when purchasing through overseas sales agents, the price will be converted to the local currency based on the agent’s exchange rate, so there may be slight differences in the local currency price between different agents, but the difference is minimal.
Below are the links to purchase the Universal Express Pass on Klook, KKday, and Trip.com:
- [Klook] Universal Studios Japan Express Pass
- [KKday] Universal Studios Japan Express Pass
- [KKday] Ticket + Express Pass
- [Trip.com] Ticket + Express Pass
In addition to traditional physical passes, the Express Pass is also available as an e-ticket. After purchasing, you can use the QR code on your phone or print out the e-ticket. Most Express Passes purchased through online platforms are now e-tickets, including those purchased on the USJ official website.
Can the Express Pass be refunded or rescheduled?
The Universal Express Pass for Universal Studios Japan does not allow refunds or rescheduling. Whether purchased on the USJ official website or through other sales platforms, refunds are not allowed, and rescheduling is not allowed. Therefore, it is recommended to purchase the Express Pass only after your travel plans are confirmed to avoid losses. However, the number of Express Passes available each day is limited, so if you purchase late, you may not be able to get one during peak seasons. Whether it’s worth the risk is up to you.
Universal Studios Japan VIP Guided Experience
In addition to purchasing the Universal Express Pass to skip the lines for popular attractions and gain guaranteed entry to “Super Nintendo World”, Universal Studios Japan also offers some VIP Guided Experiences, which also allow you to skip the lines for popular attractions and enter “Super Nintendo World”.
1. What is the VIP Guided Experience?
The VIP Guided Experience at Universal Studios Japan is a service similar to a guided tour. In Japanese, it is called ユニバーサル VIP エクスペリエンス・グループ・ツア, and in English, it is translated as Universal VIP Experience Group Tour. In Chinese, it can be referred to as Universal VIP Guided Experience (hereinafter referred to as VIP Guided Experience). Participating in the VIP Guided Experience also allows you to skip the lines for popular attractions and gain guaranteed entry to “Super Nintendo World”. Additionally, you will be led by a dedicated guide, and the priority level is higher than using the Universal Express Pass.
Note: The VIP Guided Experience does not include admission tickets, so you will need to purchase a separate admission ticket to enter Universal Studios Japan.
2. What does the VIP Guided Experience include?
The VIP Guided Experience can be further divided into Group Tours (グループ・ツアー / Group Tour) and Private Tours (プライベート・ツアー / Private Tour). The Group Tour is a standardized VIP Guided Experience with a fixed itinerary and content, and the tour participants include all those who have purchased the Guided Experience ticket, meaning you will be touring with strangers. The Private Tour is a customized VIP Guided Experience where the itinerary and content can be adjusted according to the guest’s requirements. The tour participants are limited to family members or friends, so you won’t be touring with strangers, but the cost is higher than the Group Tour.
1. Universal VIP Group Guided Experience
Currently, Universal Studios Japan offers two regular VIP Group Guided Experiences:
- Universal VIP Group Guided Experience ~ Super Nintendo World (ユニバーサル VIP エクスペリエンス・グループ・ツアー ~スーパー・ニンテンドー・ワールド™~)

If your main goal at Universal Studios Japan is to visit “Super Nintendo World” and “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter”, and you want to skip the lines for a few popular attractions, participating in the “Universal VIP Group Guided Experience ~ Super Nintendo World” is more suitable and possibly more cost-effective than purchasing the Universal Express Pass.
Japan-issued American Express cardholders enjoy the special privilege of priority access to purchase tickets for the “Universal VIP Group Tour Experience ~ Super Nintendo World.” Out of the five daily sessions of the “Universal VIP Group Tour Experience ~ Super Nintendo World,” two sessions (10:30 and 15:00) are reserved for Japan-issued American Express cardholders. If you have a Japan-issued American Express card, you can purchase tickets through this exclusive webpage. (Note: Some users have reported that U.S.-issued American Express cards may also work.)

The “Universal VIP Group Tour Experience ~ Super Nintendo World (Kids Version)” includes the following, priced at 26,000 yen to 32,000 yen (tax included), with the same price for adults and children. The tour experience lasts approximately 3 hours.

- Donkey Kong’s Crazy Minecart

- Yoshi’s Adventure
- Priority entry to the Kinopio Cafe restaurant within the “Super Nintendo World” area
If you are taking children to Universal Studios Japan and your main goal is to visit the “Super Nintendo World” area and enjoy a few popular attractions suitable for kids, the “Universal VIP Group Tour Experience ~ Super Nintendo World (Kids Version)” might be the most suitable option.
2. Universal VIP Private Tour Experience
Currently, Universal Studios Japan offers two types of regular VIP private tour experiences:
- 8-hour Universal VIP Private Tour Experience (ユニバーサル VIP エクスペリエンス・プライベート・ツアー(8時間))
- 5-hour Universal VIP Private Tour Experience (ユニバーサル VIP エクスペリエンス・プライベート・ツアー(5時間))
The cost of the Universal VIP Private Tour Experience differs from the VIP Group Tour Experience. Since it is essentially a private tour, the cost is not entirely based on the number of participants. For groups of 4 or fewer, the same fee applies. For groups larger than 4, an additional fee is charged per person starting from the 5th member.
The cost for the “8-hour Universal VIP Private Tour Experience” for 4 or fewer people ranges from 298,000 yen to 398,000 yen (tax included), with an additional fee of 74,500 yen to 99,500 yen per person for the 5th member and beyond, with the same price for adults and children. The cost for the “5-hour Universal VIP Private Tour Experience” for 4 or fewer people ranges from 198,000 yen to 298,000 yen (tax included), with an additional fee of 49,500 yen to 74,500 yen per person for the 5th member and beyond, with the same price for adults and children.
3. How to Purchase Universal Studios Japan VIP Tour Experience Tickets?
Previously, Universal VIP Tour Experience tickets could only be purchased on the official Universal Studios Japan website, but now they are also available on Klook and KKday. Below are the links to purchase Universal VIP Tour Experience tickets on Klook and KKday.
- Klook Universal VIP Tour Experience Ticket Purchase Page
- KKday Universal VIP Tour Experience Ticket Purchase Page
The method for purchasing Universal VIP Tour Experience tickets on the USJ official website is essentially the same as purchasing Universal Express Pass tickets. Interested buyers can refer to the following guide. However, please note that the Universal VIP Tour Experience is conducted in Japanese. If your main goal is to enter the “Super Nintendo World” area and enjoy priority access to specific attractions, not understanding Japanese should not be a significant issue.
Similar to regular tickets and Universal Express Passes, Universal VIP Tour Experience tickets generally go on sale 2 months in advance. However, during peak seasons, the sales schedule may not follow this rule and may be subject to the official release schedule. Since the number of Universal VIP Tour Experience tickets is limited, they tend to sell out quickly during peak periods. Therefore, if you are interested in purchasing, be sure to pay attention to the release time.
Purchasing Tickets, Express Passes, and VIP Tour Experiences on the Universal Studios Japan Official Website
Universal Studios Japan offers a variety of Universal Express Passes, which are frequently updated. Therefore, travel agencies and online platforms may not always have the latest Universal Express Passes available, and they generally do not allow you to choose your preferred time slots, which limits flexibility. If you want to purchase an Express Pass and choose your preferred time slots, you can opt to buy it on the Universal Studios Japan official website.
However, now you can select your preferred time slots when purchasing Universal Studios Japan Fast Passes on Klook and KKday, and all types of passes are available. It may not be necessary to purchase through the official website, and buying through online platforms allows you to earn points, making it more cost-effective than purchasing through the official website.

Below is a guide on how to purchase tickets and use e-tickets on the Japanese version of the Universal Studios Japan official website, including how to register for a Universal Club membership, purchase Universal Studios Japan birthday discount tickets, purchase Universal Studios Japan Express Passes, and how to use e-tickets for entry.
When purchasing tickets on the Japanese version of the official website, you will need to fill in a Japanese address and phone number. However, since tickets and Express Passes can be used in e-ticket format and do not need to be physically mailed to a Japanese address, you can enter any Japanese address, such as a hotel address. Therefore, even foreign tourists not residing in Japan can purchase tickets online.
Below are the topics covered in this section:
- Registering for a Universal Club Membership
- Purchasing Birthday Discount Tickets
- Purchasing 4th Birthday Discount Tickets
- Purchasing Regular Tickets
- Purchasing Express Passes (Universal Express Pass)
- Purchasing VIP Tour Experience Tickets
1. Registering for a Universal Club Membership
Universal Club (Clubユニバーサル | Club Universal) is the membership system of Universal Studios Japan. To purchase tickets or Universal Express Passes on the official Universal Studios Japan website, you must first register for a Universal Club membership. As a Universal Club member, you can enjoy certain benefits when purchasing tickets on the official website, such as the ability to purchase birthday discount tickets and 4th birthday invitation discount tickets.
Below are the steps to register for a Universal Club membership:
[Step 1] Visit the Universal Club Membership Registration Page, enter your email address, and click the “Send” button to send a verification link.

[Step 2] After receiving the email from Universal Club, click the verification link in the email to verify your email and proceed to the membership registration page.

[Step 3] Agree to the terms and conditions of the membership system, then fill in your membership details. The required information includes: name (in both English and Japanese, preferably matching your passport to avoid issues when verifying tickets at entry), set a login password, katakana (you can use this webpage to look up the katakana for your Chinese name), postal code for your address (for foreign addresses, you can enter 000-0000), region (select “Foreign” for non-Japanese addresses), detailed address, phone number (you can enter a foreign phone number), gender, date of birth, and answer questions such as whether you have a USJ annual pass, whether you wish to receive USJ updates, and whether your email can read HTML. Additionally, you will need to set a login password for your account, and the account name will default to the email address entered in Step 1 and cannot be changed. After filling in the details, click the “Next” button to proceed.

[Step 4] Add family member information. Adding family member information allows you to enjoy birthday discount tickets for family members, provided the family member is included in the entry group. Family member information only requires the name, date of birth, gender, and relationship, and you can add up to 6 family members. After completing this, click the “Confirm” button to proceed.

[Step 5] After verifying that all information is correct, click the “Register” button to complete the membership registration.

After successfully registering for a membership, you will receive a confirmation email.

After registering for a membership, you can log in to your Universal Club account on the Universal Club Member Login Page using your email address and password.

After logging in to your membership account, you can perform various operations on the account management page, such as modifying your membership details, adding family member information, purchasing tickets and Universal Express Passes, and checking purchase records and rescheduling (if available).

2. Purchase Universal Studios Japan Birthday Discount Tickets
The main benefit of registering as a Universal Studios Japan member (Universal Club member) is the ability to purchase birthday discount tickets during your birthday period.
Birthday discount tickets are divided into two types: Birthday 1-Day Pass (バースデー・1デイ・パス) and Birthday 2-Day Pass (バースデー・2デイ・パス). The prices are dynamic, similar to regular 1-Day and 2-Day Passes. The adult price for the Birthday 1-Day Pass starts from 8,100 yen, while the price for children aged 4-11 starts from 5,300 yen. The adult price for the Birthday 2-Day Pass starts from 15,300 yen, and the price for children aged 4-11 starts from 10,000 yen. The price is approximately a 6% discount compared to regular 1-Day and 2-Day Passes. Adults can save 500 yen on the Birthday 1-Day Pass and 1,000 yen on the Birthday 2-Day Pass, while children can save 300 yen or 600 yen.
Birthday discount tickets can only be purchased on the Universal Studios Japan official website using a Universal Club member account. They are not available on other ticketing platforms. The member account holder or a registered family member must have a birthday in the same month or the previous month as the ticket date. For example, if your birthday is on September 20th, you can purchase birthday discount tickets for dates between September 1st and October 31st. In other words, if your birthday is in September, you can purchase birthday discount tickets for September and October, and so on. Each birthday member (or family member) can purchase up to 6 birthday discount tickets, including the birthday person themselves.
Below are the steps to purchase birthday discount tickets on the Universal Studios Japan official website using a Universal Club member account:
[Step 1] After entering the Universal Studios Japan Japanese official website, click on the “チケットを探す・購入する” link in the upper right corner, then click on “スタジオ・パス(入場券)” to enter the ticket page of the Universal Studios Japan official website. Find the birthday discount tickets and click on the “今すぐ購入” button for the ticket type you want to purchase (1-Day Pass or 2-Day Pass).

[Step 2] In the pop-up window, click on the “同意する” button. If you are not logged in to your member account, you will need to enter your email address and password to log in. If you are already logged in, you will proceed directly to the next step.

[Step 3] After logging into your Universal Club member account, if there are members whose birthdays are within the next 2 months and they meet the conditions for purchasing birthday discount tickets, their information will be displayed. The available ticket entry period will also be shown. Click on the “今すぐ購入する” button to start the purchase.

Note: The entry period for birthday discount tickets is within two months, including the birthday month and the following month. For example, if your birthday is on August 18th, you can purchase birthday discount tickets for dates between August 1st and September 30th.
[Step 4] Click on “入場予定日を選択する” to enter the calendar interface, then click on the “選択する” button for the entry date to select the date.

[Step 5] After selecting the entry date, choose the ticket pickup method. There are three pickup methods for online ticket purchases: using the QR Code e-ticket displayed after purchase, picking up the ticket at the Universal Studios ticket office, or having the ticket mailed to a domestic Japanese address. The simplest and most convenient method is to use the QR Code e-ticket. Select “ダイレクトイン(QRコード)” to choose the QR Code e-ticket.

[Step 6] Select the number of tickets to purchase, then click on the “カートに追加する” button to add the selected tickets to the shopping cart.

[Step 7] After adding the selected tickets to the shopping cart, you will be directed to the checkout page. Click on the “購入手続きへ進む” button to proceed with the checkout.

Note: If you want to purchase other tickets, such as the Universal Express Pass, you can click on the “今すぐ購入” button for the other ticket types on the above page. However, it is recommended to purchase tickets and Express Passes separately, even if you want to buy them on the official website. Tickets purchased on the official website can be rescheduled (but not canceled), while the Universal Express Pass cannot be canceled or rescheduled. If you purchase both tickets and Express Passes in one order, the entire order will be treated as one, meaning even the tickets cannot be rescheduled. For more information on ticket rescheduling rules and methods, please refer here.
[Step 8] After entering the checkout process, the system will automatically fill in the purchaser’s personal information from the member profile, including the purchaser’s name, katakana, and email address. The email address cannot be modified, but the purchaser’s name can be changed. If the member is not entering the park, the name can be changed to one of the attendees. Additionally, the phone number needs to be entered manually, and non-Japanese phone numbers can be used. Even if the QR Code e-ticket is selected as the pickup method, an address must still be filled in, and it must be a Japanese address. However, if you do not choose the delivery method, USJ will not send anything to this address, so you can enter any Japanese address, such as the address of the hotel where you will be staying in Osaka. If you do not know the hotel address, you can check it on Rakuten Travel. When filling in the address, you only need to enter the postal code, then click on the “住所自動入力” button to automatically fill in the address. After filling in all the information, check the box next to “WEBチケットストア利用規約…” and click on the “お支払い情報登録へ” button to proceed to the payment page.

[Step 9] Fill in the payment credit card information, including the card number, expiration date, and security code, then click on the “注文内容確認へ進む” button to proceed with the payment. (Note: Japanese credit cards can be used for installment payments, but overseas credit cards can only be used for one-time payments, so select “一括払い”.)

[Step 10] After confirming that the ticket information is correct, click on the “購入を決定する” button to confirm the purchase.

Update: Before clicking the “購入を決定する” button to confirm the purchase, you will need to complete a verification step. The verification is done by a human, not a machine. The verification method involves the system displaying a number, and you must select the same number from the five numbers below it.

Note: Starting from March 31, 2017, if you use a credit card issued outside of Japan for payment, the credit card must have 3D Secure verification. In simple terms, when using a credit card with 3D Secure verification for payment, a pop-up window will appear asking for an authorization password to confirm the identity of the transaction. Many credit cards now have 3D Secure verification enabled, and you may have experience with this when shopping online, such as when purchasing movie tickets. If you are unsure or your credit card cannot complete the payment, please contact your credit card company.
After completing the ticket purchase, the payment will be immediately deducted from your credit card, and a confirmation email will be sent to your email address.

3. Purchase Universal Studios Japan 4th Birthday Discount Tickets
Children under 4 years old can enter Universal Studios Japan for free when accompanied by an adult. Therefore, Universal Studios Japan offers a special 4th Birthday Ticket for children who have just turned 4 and need to purchase a ticket. Children who have turned 4 can purchase a 1-day ticket at a discounted price during their birthday month and the following month. This special ticket is more discounted than the regular birthday ticket.
The 4th Birthday Ticket includes two discounts, which can be used simultaneously. The first discount allows you to purchase a 2-person 1-day ticket at a discounted price (one adult + the child who just turned 4, starting from 8,100 yen, or one child aged 4-11 + the child who just turned 4, starting from 5,300 yen). The second discount allows you to purchase up to 5 1-day tickets at a discounted price, with adult tickets starting from 8,100 yen and child tickets (ages 4-11) starting from 5,300 yen.
The 4th Birthday Ticket is only available to Universal Club Members. To enjoy this discount, you must first register the child who is about to turn 4 as a Universal Club Member on the Universal Studios Japan official website, or add the child as a family member in an adult account. Additionally, the 4th Birthday Ticket cannot be purchased directly on the official website; you need to purchase it at the ticket office outside the USJ entrance. When purchasing the ticket, you will need a 4th Birthday Discount Coupon, and you may also need to present a valid document proving the child’s date of birth, such as a passport.
If there is a member in your Universal Club account who is about to turn 4, after logging into your Universal Club account, the homepage will display the name of the member who is about to turn 4 and a link to obtain the 4th Birthday Invitation Coupon. Clicking the link will generate a 4th Birthday Invitation Coupon, which you can print out and present when purchasing the ticket on-site to get the discounted ticket.

4. Purchasing Universal Studios Japan General Tickets
Universal Studios Japan tickets can also be purchased on the official website, but the price is the same as on other online ticket platforms. The only advantage of purchasing general tickets on the official website is that you can change the admission date. However, Universal Studios Japan tickets can be purchased even one day in advance, so if you don’t purchase too early, there is usually no need to change the date.
When purchasing Universal Studios Japan tickets on other online platforms, you can earn points and sometimes enjoy additional discounts. Therefore, unless you are purchasing a birthday discount ticket, it is recommended to buy tickets on other online platforms. If you still want to purchase tickets on the USJ official website, you can follow the same steps as purchasing birthday tickets.
Below are links to purchase Universal Studios Japan tickets on Klook, KKday, and Trip.com. After purchasing, you do not need to pick up the ticket; you can simply scan the QR code in the email to enter. The price is the same as on the official website.
5. Purchasing Universal Studios Japan Express Pass (Universal Express Pass)
The method and steps for purchasing the Universal Express Pass on the Universal Studios Japan official website are basically the same as purchasing tickets, except that when purchasing the Universal Express Pass, you need to select some attractions and the entry time for “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” and “Super Nintendo World” (if the Pass includes entry confirmation for these areas).
Below is the method for purchasing the Express Pass on the Universal Studios Japan official website:
[Step 1] After entering the Universal Studios Japan Japanese official website, click the “Find/Purchase Tickets” link in the upper right corner, then click “Universal Express Pass” to enter the Universal Express Pass page on the Universal Studios Japan official website. After finding the Express Pass you want to purchase, click the “Purchase Now” button.

[Step 2] In the pop-up window, click the “Agree” button, then click “Select Admission Date” to enter the calendar interface. Click the “Select” button next to the admission date to choose the date.

[Step 3] After selecting the admission date, choose the ticket pickup method and the number of tickets. There are two ticket pickup methods when purchasing the Universal Express Pass on the USJ official website: using the QR Code e-ticket displayed after purchase, or having the ticket mailed to a domestic Japanese address. The simplest and most convenient method is to use the QR Code e-ticket. Click “Direct In (QR Code)” to select the QR Code e-ticket. The price of the Universal Express Pass is the same for all ages, as long as the person is 4 years or older.

[Step 4] Select the entry time for “Super Nintendo World” and “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter,” as well as the “Experience Time Slot” for the attractions. When purchasing the USJ Fast Pass, if the Pass includes entry confirmation for “Super Nintendo World” and “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter,” you need to pre-select the entry time. Additionally, some attractions included in the Express Pass also require you to select a time slot for the experience (referred to as the “Experience Time Slot” on the official website).

Note: If the Universal Express Pass includes entry confirmation for “Super Nintendo World” and “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter,” you need to select them in order. First, select the entry time for “Super Nintendo World,” then select the entry time for “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter,” and finally select the “Experience Time Slot.” The earlier you purchase, the more entry times and experience time slots you can choose from; the later you purchase, the fewer options you will have. If you see a message like “You need to specify a time, but there are no available time slots. Please reselect the date and number of tickets.“, it means that there are no available entry times or experience time slots for that day, and you cannot purchase the Express Pass.

What is an Experience Time Slot?
Note 1: To control the number of people entering “Super Nintendo World” and “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” at any given time, as well as the number of people participating in certain popular attractions, you need to select the entry time for “Super Nintendo World” and “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” and the time slot for participating in time-limited attractions when purchasing the Express Pass. However, you cannot freely choose the time for each attraction; you can only choose one “Experience Time Slot“. The “Experience Time Slot” refers to a combination of the entry time for “Super Nintendo World” and “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” and the participation time for specific attractions. The time for each attraction in the “Experience Time Slot” is pre-set and cannot be freely chosen.
Note 2: Each “Experience Time Slot” has a code and a time range indicated in parentheses. The time range generally represents the earliest entry time for “Super Nintendo World” or “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” and the latest participation time for time-limited attractions. For example, in the image above, the Experience Time Slot is “(76)12:00~18:50”, where 76 is the code for this Experience Time Slot, 12:00 is the earliest entry time for “Super Nintendo World,” and 18:50 is the latest participation time for the last attraction.
Note 3: Click the “アトラクション体験時間の詳しい時間帯はこちら” button below the experience time slot to view the participation times for each attraction during the selected time slot. For example, if I want to check the participation times for the attractions during the selected “(76)12:00~18:50” time slot, after clicking the “アトラクション体験時間の詳しい時間帯はこちら” button, on the displayed experience time slot page, first select the date range for Osaka Universal Studios, then find the time slot. The time in that row will be the entry time for “Super Nintendo World” and “Harry Potter’s Wizarding World,” as well as the participation times for attractions that require a designated time.

Note 4: Purchasing the Universal Express Pass Premium does not require selecting an experience time slot.
[Step 5] After selecting the entry date, ticket collection method, number of tickets, and experience time slot, click the “カートに追加する” button to add the selected Universal Express Pass to the shopping cart.

[Step 6] After adding the selected Express Pass to the shopping cart, you will proceed to the checkout page. Click the “購入手続きへ進む” button to begin the checkout process. (Note: If you are not logged into a member account, you will need to enter your email address and password to log into your Universal Club member account.)

Note: If you want to purchase other tickets, such as admission tickets, you can click the “今すぐ購入する” button for the other ticket types on the above page. However, it is recommended to purchase admission tickets and Express Pass separately, even if you want to buy them together on the official website. This is because admission tickets purchased on the official website can be rescheduled (but not canceled), while the Universal Express Pass cannot be canceled or rescheduled. If you purchase both in one order, the entire order will be treated as non-reschedulable, meaning even the admission tickets cannot be rescheduled. For details on rescheduling admission tickets, you can refer here.
[Step 7] After entering the checkout process, the system will automatically fill in the purchaser’s personal information from the member profile, including the purchaser’s name, katakana, and email address. The email address cannot be modified, but the purchaser’s name can be changed. If the member is not attending, the name can be changed to one of the attendees. Additionally, the phone number needs to be entered manually, and it can be a non-Japanese phone number. Furthermore, even if you choose to use an electronic ticket (QR Code) for ticket collection, you still need to fill in an address, and it must be a Japanese address. However, as long as you do not choose home delivery for ticket collection, USJ will not send anything to this address, so you can enter any Japanese address, such as the address of the hotel where you will be staying in Osaka. If you do not know the hotel address, you can check it on Rakuten Travel Japan. When filling in the address, you only need to enter the postal code, then click the “住所自動入力” button to automatically fill in the address. After filling in all the information, first check the box next to “WEBチケットストア利用規約…“, then click the “お支払い情報登録へ” button to proceed to the payment page.

[Step 8] Enter the payment credit card details, including the card number, expiration date, and security code, then click the “注文内容確認へ進む” button to proceed with the payment. (Note: If using a Japanese credit card, you can choose installment payments, but if using an overseas credit card, you can only pay in full, so select “一括払い”.)

[Step 9] After verifying that the ticket information is correct, click the “購入を決定する” button to confirm the purchase.

Update: Now, before clicking the “購入を決定する” button to confirm the purchase, you need to complete a verification step. This verification is done by a human, not a machine. The verification method involves the system displaying a number, and you need to select the same number from the five numbers displayed below.

Note: Starting from March 31, 2017, if you use a credit card issued outside of Japan for payment, the credit card must have 3D Secure functionality. In simple terms, when using a credit card with 3D Secure for payment, a pop-up window will appear, asking for an authorization password to confirm the identity of the transaction. Many credit cards now have 3D Secure functionality enabled. If you are unsure or your credit card cannot complete the payment, you can contact your credit card company for more information.
After completing the ticket purchase, the payment will be immediately charged to your credit card, and a confirmation email will be sent to your email address.

6. Purchasing Osaka Universal Studios VIP Guided Experience Tickets
The method for purchasing Universal VIP Guided Experience tickets on the Osaka Universal Studios official website is basically the same as purchasing the Universal Express Pass. Below is an example of purchasing the “Universal VIP Group Guided Experience ~ Super Nintendo World” ticket.
[Step 1] After entering the page for the guided experience you want to purchase, first click “庫カレンダー” to check which dates and time slots still have Universal Studios VIP Guided Experience tickets available.

[Step 2] After confirming that the date you plan to visit Osaka Universal Studios still has VIP Guided Experience tickets available, select the start time for the VIP Guided Experience, then click the “今すぐ購入” button and agree to the terms of use.

The subsequent steps are basically the same as purchasing the Universal Express Pass. You can refer to the above steps [Step 3] and [Step 5]~[Step 9] for purchasing the Universal Express Pass.
Additionally, if you purchase the “Universal VIP Private Guided Experience,” one ticket can include up to 4 participants. If the number of participants exceeds 4, you will need to purchase additional slots for the extra participants. For example, if there are 7 participants, you will need to purchase 3 additional slots. Since the VIP Private Guided Experience requires a minimum of 4 participants, the additional slots do not need to be purchased in advance and can be purchased on the day of entry. Also, the “Universal VIP Private Guided Experience” cannot use QR Codes and requires physical tickets to be exchanged at the park’s ticket office.

II. Using Osaka Universal Studios Electronic Tickets
Now, tickets and Express Passes purchased through online platforms (including the USJ official website) generally use electronic tickets. When entering the park or participating in attractions, you only need to scan the QR Code on the electronic ticket. There are two ways to use electronic tickets: the first is to print out the electronic ticket, and the second is to use the electronic ticket directly on your phone.
Note: Although Japan Universal Studios has an official mobile app, the Japan Universal Studios App cannot be used to store or display electronic tickets for admission tickets or Express Passes.
1. Using Printed Paper Electronic Tickets
If you choose the QR Code electronic ticket (ダイレクトイン) as the ticket collection method when purchasing tickets, after completing the purchase, a link to the QR Code electronic ticket for the purchased ticket or Express Pass will appear on the webpage. Clicking this link will open the QR Code electronic ticket page.

Osaka Universal Studios Ticket QR Code Electronic Ticket

Express Pass QR Code Electronic Ticket

You can print the e-ticket on A4 paper, but make sure the QR code on the e-ticket is clear and complete. Each ticket has one e-ticket. For example, if two people purchase two tickets and two Universal Express Passes, there will be a total of four e-tickets.
When entering Universal Studios Japan (USJ), you only need to scan the QR code on the USJ e-ticket at the gate to enter. There is no need to queue at the ticket office to exchange tickets. The same applies to the Express Pass e-ticket. When you go to a ride that accepts the Express Pass, the staff will scan the QR code on your Express Pass e-ticket with a handheld scanner. Once scanned, the system will remember that your Express Pass has been used for that ride, and you cannot use it again for the same ride.
Additionally, when entering the “Super Nintendo World” and “Harry Potter Wizarding World” areas, the QR code on the Express Pass e-ticket may also be scanned, although it may not be scanned during peak times. If the QR code is scanned upon entry, the system will remember that you have entered the area, and you will not be able to re-enter after leaving.
If you need to reprint the e-ticket, you can revisit the ticket purchase page on the Japanese version of the USJ website, click on “Purchase History/Date Change“, and log in with the email address and password you used when purchasing the ticket.

2. Using the E-ticket on Your Mobile Phone
In addition to printing the e-ticket on A4 paper, the simplest and most convenient method is to use the QR code e-ticket directly on your mobile phone without printing it. First, open the Japanese version of the USJ website on your mobile browser, log in to “Purchase History“, and then open the QR code e-ticket.

When using the ticket and Express Pass, simply scan the QR code on the e-ticket displayed on your mobile phone.

However, the QR code on the e-ticket within the webpage requires an internet connection to be displayed. If you do not have a WiFi egg or a Japanese data SIM card, you may not be able to access the internet inside USJ, and the QR code on the e-ticket may not display properly. Therefore, the safest method is to open each QR code e-ticket on the webpage while you have internet access, take a screenshot of the e-ticket, and save the screenshot in an easily accessible photo album. You can then present the screenshot on your phone for scanning.
